Hanover

Hanover is a growing suburban community which was first settled in 1649 and incorporated in 1727. The town’s early econ-omy was based on agriculture and lumbering for house- and ship-building. By 1800 Hanover was one of the major industrial centers in SE Mass, with its water power resources and shipbuilding on the North River. Making tacks and fireworks lead industry of the 19th century, bringing immigrants from Lithuania and Poland to town. Residents are proud of the Four Corners section of town, with its authentic period village feel.
