With all of the technology out there to help you get to where you are going, why would a small group of people feel they need to spend their time creating an updated paper map? Because people still like to hold maps in their hands to a get a sense of where things are in relationship to a bigger picture than you can't see on a tiny screen.
That's the reason why the Duxbury Business Association is in the process of updating a town map.
The DBA was started about twenty years ago as a way to help Duxbury businesses grow and prosper. I grew up here in town and this is where I started my business, so I wanted to get involved with the DBA and give something back to the town. I am still involved today as the Treasurer of the organization and am also on the committee charged with updating the map.
We have a town rich with history as evidenced by many street names such as Standish Street and Standish Road, Alden Street and Mayflower Street, Mayflower Road and Mayflower Ave. It does get a little confusing!
Those of us who are involved with the DBA love our town and we give back in other ways including giving to scholarships every year and organizing Holly Days which is a celebration right before the holidays to help our retail community.
Ah, but the map is a core part of the identity of the DBA. We spend our time and money on it as a group so others can get to know and appreciate the beautiful community we all love so much.
