The end of the school year is fast approaching. While there are many options available to keep kids busy this summer, there is one program that stands out as a cut above the rest. esTeam Girls was founded four years ago by Duxbury native, Katie Grossman. Katie is extremely passionate about fitness, and not because she believes in achieving any sort of bodily aesthetic. Katie’s passion comes from the knowledge that physical strength and overall wellness stems directly from emotional and mental strength. Her goal is to teach girls and young women that health is about a mind, body, and spiritual connection- a message that is incredibly powerful in today’s world of bombarding media and advertising.
Katie’s fitness class is an amazing sight to take in. There is an incredible amount of energy, laughter, and excitement that fills the room. She is a positive role model and the girls really look up to her. After speaking with Katie it is impossible not to feel enlightened and view the world through a clearer lens. Her cool, upbeat, and confident attitude is contagious and refreshing. A 2013 graduate of the University of Michigan, Katie studied women’s health and nutrition, and was a member of the university’s crew team. Katie has since continued her education becoming a certified Reiki Master, a certified personal trainer, and a certified children’s yoga instructor. She really does it all.
Katie has designed programs to give girls the tools to make healthy food choices, move their bodies, and feel confident in their own skin. The biggest lesson Katie teaches is that you have to love yourself and support others. She says, “my goal is to encourage girls to dream big and to step fully into themselves… I am trying to shift the paradigm in how girls see themselves and support others.”
It seems that women are continually cutting each other down and competing with each other in an unhealthy way. Imagine the possibilities if women supported each other and lifted each other up. That is precisely the message Katie aims to instill within girls who participate in her programs. She envisions a world where all girls can “be fully confident in themselves”, dream big and have the tools to reach their greatest potential.
Programs for girls grades three through nine will build self-esteem and confidence through fitness based programs, but it doesn’t stop there. Topics covered in Katie’s curriculum include body confidence, friendship, self-respect and discovery, giving back, goal setting, and a whole lot more.
In addition to summer fitness programs, Katie also offers sports performance training for high schoolers, mother/daughter sunset yoga, zumba, and a running club. She even offers healthy cooking classes at her home. Did I mention she can make a mean plant-based smoothie?
